Quarts, Domaine Belargus

Quarts take its name from the prestigious but relatively unknown appellation Quarts de Chaume, a Grand Cru producing sweet wines with incredible character and expression. This wine is dry from Chenin grapes grown on the schist soil of Anjou, in the appellation producing sweet wines.

TASTING NOTE

At first, the expressive nose is floral with lots of white flowers, quince, dried honey, lemon confit, sourdough, and stones. After airing, it reveals more zesty notes, almonds, orange zest, and acacia. The palate is intense and vertical, crisp and focused. The natural bright acidity shapes the wine and balances the solar character and rich flavors that develop all along. It is full, poised, complex, aromatic, zesty, and succulent. It has depth and length with a long, vibrant finish — a beautiful Chenin with a unique style. Two days after opening, it will show notes of gingerbread, lemon confit, and marmalade. The wine is as vibrant as on the first day, with sharp, driven acidity and a lively long finish on citrus fruits and exotic spices.

ABOUT THE WINERY

Belargus is the name of a small blue butterfly, local to Loire Valley despite not being found in these latitudes, witnessing the uniqueness of the terroirs in this area. Here stands a unique patchwork of vineyards and villages known as Anjou Noir, where the only Grand Cru of the region, Quarts de Chaumes, is located. It has been producing wines that have astonished wine lovers and connoisseurs for centuries.
